China’s Exploding Film Market

As reported in the Guardian (11/29/12), China’s film market is exploding.

“China’s film market, already the second biggest in the world, will surpass that of the US by 2020, according to a new report by Ernst & Young.

The report suggests the media and entertainment industry in the world’s most populous nation is due to grow by 17% a year until 2015. China is also building 25,000 cinema screens over the next five years, to cope with demand from an increasingly wealthy population.

2012 Vimeo Online Film Fest Winners

The second Vimeo Film Festival honoring the best emerging talent creating original videos online was held in June in New York City.

The films were judged in thirteen categories.

There were 14,567 entries!

What’s Up with Original Programming at Amazon?

First, there was Amazon Studios.

Now, there’s Amazon Studios’ People’s Production Company.


Amazon recently posted some new job listings as part of a search for what 

 Ryan Lawler (Gigaom.com) describes as,


“…creative execs to develop programming through its Amazon Studios initiative. The jobs specifically are for the “People’s Production Company,” which is the name of the production studio producing original content, located in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Successful applicants would report to Amazon’s VP of Series Development and would be expected to:

Good News for Sundance Alums

 

 

As the 2012 Sundance Film Festival approaches, filmmakers whose films have been accepted by the Festival this year, or any other year for that matter, have an additional reason to be happy, thanks to an initiative set up by the Sundance Institute last summer to help Sundance alumni get their films streamed online.
